Preliminary statistics reported by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) from its annual National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) reveal that there were 403 workplace homicides and 271 workplace suicides recorded nationally last year. In both cases, the totals are close to the totals reported for 2013, when the number of workplace homicides reported by BLS was the lowest since it began tabulating this data in 1992, and the number of workplace suicides was the highest since BLS began tabulating the data.

Overall, homicides comprised 9% of all fatal occupational injuries that occurred in the U.S. during 2014, and suicides accounted for an additional 6% of workplace fatalities last year.
