We are pleased to present our new “Catalog of Federal Bounty Hunter Laws.” These so-called bounty hunter laws are closely related to the whistleblower protection laws, and in certain circumstances allow whistleblowers to share in monetary awards given out as a remedy for wrongdoing committed by a company against the U.S. government.
For example, just since March of this year, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced a bounty award of over $5 million to joint whistleblowers located abroad and bounties of approximately $1.5 million and $2.5 million to two separate U.S.-based whistleblowers, bringing the agency’s total bounty awards handed out under the “Dodd-Frank” financial reform law to more than $762 million since the inception of the program in 2012.
Our catalog summarizes the relevant provisions of those existing federal laws that currently provide for bounty hunter awards.
