The Labor Department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) has formally rescinded regulations that broadened the religious exemption for government contractors that are religious corporations, associations, educational institutions, or societies. The Biden OFCCP said the 2020 regulations from the Trump-era OFCCP were unnecessary. The rescission of the Trump-era regulations in essence returns the religious exemption to its previous form. The formal rescission, which was published in the Federal Register on March 1, 2023, will take effect March 31, 2023.
