The Department of Labor (DOL) has published final regulations to implement the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017, or “HIRE Vets Act,” a law signed earlier this year by President Trump that provides for a “medallion” program through which employers can seek recognition for exemplary efforts in recruiting, employing, and retaining veterans.

The final regulations, which were published in the Federal Register on November 13, 2017, establish the application process and criteria that DOL’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS) will use to receive, review, and process applications, and ultimately grant medallions to those employers meeting the criteria established by the law.

The final regulations are virtually identical to DOL’s proposed regulations, which were published back in August. While full implementation is contingent on Congress funding the program, DOL intends to initiate a limited HIRE Vets Medallion Program Demonstration in 2018 with full implementation occurring in 2019.
