U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that administers the employment eligibility verification requirements of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), has published a new version of the Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 with technical changes to the previous version.

Importantly, from a user perspective, the new I-9 and its instructions do not contain any substantive changes and do not impact the employment eligibility verification process. Employers can begin using the updated form immediately for any new hires and reverifications and must fully implement the new version no later than April 30, 2020. The new form, which shows an expiration date of 10/31/2022, is available for download on the USCIS website at https://www.uscis.gov/i-9.
