A white paper entitled “Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs: Right Mission, Wrong Tactics,” prepared by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and recently submitted to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), takes a critical look at OFCCP’s aggressive enforcement tactics during the Obama Administration and recommends several specific actions OFCCP could take to improve its strained relationship with the regulated community.
Although the report is highly critical of the way OFCCP has abused its enforcement authority over the last several years, it does not call for OFCCP’s elimination. To the contrary, the Report stresses that “the Chamber and its members value OFCCP and applaud its mission. To be sure, federal contractors are proud of often being the vanguard for the advancement of diversity and nondiscrimination efforts in the workplace. The critiques presented are made in the spirit of good faith suggestions for reform and will not undermine or interfere with OFCCP’s diversity and antidiscrimination efforts if implemented.”
The Chamber is the largest business lobbying group in the United States, representing the interests of more than three million businesses. It advocates pro-business policies before Congress and the regulatory agencies, often in the form of well-researched white papers.
