As anticipated, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that it will be conducting a trial run this year of a new “HIRE Vets Medallion” program, a voluntary program under which small, medium, and large employers can seek recognition for exemplary efforts in recruiting, employing, and retaining veterans.

The HIRE Vets Medallion program, which will be administrated by DOL’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS), was created by the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017, or “HIRE Vets Act.”

During the 2018 “Program Demonstration,” which is designed to prepare DOL-VETS for full program implementation in 2019, applications will be limited to the first 300 employers, and the application fee will be waived. Successful applicants will be recognized later this year on Veterans Day, November 11. If all goes as scheduled, employers who wish to participate in the 2018 Program Demonstration will be permitted to begin submitting their applications on January 31, 2018.

DOL announced the program in a January 18, 2018 press release. Applications must be submitted online at https://www.hirevets.gov. Previews of screenshots from the online application process are currently available for download.
