Final statistics reported recently by the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and derived from the annual national Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) reveal that there were 417 workplace homicides and 229 workplace suicides recorded in calendar year 2015. Although the number of workplace homicides in 2015 increased slightly over the 409 recorded in 2014, it was still the third-lowest total recorded in the past 20 years.
In contrast, the 229 workplace suicides reported in 2015 decreased by 18 percent from the 280 workplace suicides reported in 2014, and is the lowest since the 161 suicides reported in 2007.
