Regulatory reform has been a major focus of the Trump Administration since taking office. Consistent with that priority, and in the most recent example of significant deregulatory action, President Trump has issued a new Executive Order (E.O. 13924) directing federal agencies to take specific action to support economic recovery as the nation copes with the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, the E.O. directs federal agencies to:
- Consider whether any laws they enforce permit rescission or suspension of some requirements or permit new enforcement positions to help economic recovery;
- Adopt expedited processes for requesting COVID-19 related opinions;
- Reform administrative enforcement and adjudication practices; and
- Consider making permanent temporary measures adopted in response to COVID-19.
