Following closely on the heels of the recently announced “Excellence in Disability Inclusion Award,” the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) has announced its intent to move forward with a second award program for federal contractor establishments with a demonstrated commitment to ensuring equal opportunity in the workplace.

The new “Leadership in Equal Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award” will recognize contractor establishments that have developed and successfully implemented comprehensive equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination programs, and that practice inclusion and fair treatment in the workplace. The award will be establishment-specific – contractors with functional affirmative action programs will not be eligible to participate – and contractors will self-nominate for award consideration.

Under procedures mandated by the federal Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA), OFCCP must first obtain approval from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to collect information necessary to support the award nomination process, and interested parties have the opportunity to submit comments to OFCCP on its request until December 18, 2018.
