Patricia Shiu, the director of the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) since 2009 and one of the longest-serving OFCCP directors ever, announced that she is stepping aside from the agency on November 6, 2016. Director Shiu was appointed in 2009 by then-Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and assumed her office on October 1, 2009. Director Shiu has not publicly disclosed her plans post-resignation.
In the meantime, career Labor Department (DOL) official and current OFCCP Deputy Director Thomas Dowd has been named as OFCCP’s acting director, a position he is likely to hold until the next secretary of Labor appoints a new permanent director, which could take several months given the upcoming presidential election and the resulting turnover in executive branch personnel.
