President-elect Joe Biden announced last week that he will nominate Boston Democratic Mayor Marty Walsh to be the next secretary of labor. Once Mr. Walsh is formally nominated after the new administration assumes office on January 20, 2021, his nomination will require confirmation by the evenly divided U.S. Senate.

Mr. Walsh previously served as head of the Boston Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO, and has served as Mayor of Boston since 2014. Not surprisingly, his choice as Labor Secretary has strong support from organized labor.
