The U.S. Senate has confirmed President Trump’s nomination of Paul Ray to be Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Mr. Ray had been filling in as Acting OIRA Administrator for nearly a year following the resignation of former Director Naomi Rao, who left the post after she was nominated and confirmed as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Mr. Ray now takes over as the gatekeeper of the White House agency responsible for coordinating federal regulatory policy, and in particular will be managing the current administration’s regulatory reform efforts.
Mr. Ray, who previously served as an advisor to former Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta and who is intimately familiar with the Labor Department’s regulatory agenda, was confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate on a party-line vote of 50 to 44 on January 9, 2020.
