An oil rig worker who earned more than $200,000 annually is entitled to overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) because his employer calculated his pay on a daily basis, according to a 6–3 ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court on February 22, 2023. The court found that even though the worker’s job duties were otherwise exempt from FLSA coverage, Labor Department (DOL) regulations mandated that he be paid on a salary basis to qualify as FLSA-exempt.
