The U.S. House of Representatives on January 11, 2016, gave unanimous approval to a bill (H.R. 3231) that would amend federal sector nondiscrimination law to provide protection to unpaid interns. A similar bill (H.R. 3232) that would extend nondiscrimination protection to unpaid interns in the private sector has also been introduced, but is still pending further action in committee.
