The U.S. Senate has confirmed President Trump’s nominations of three individuals to serve as new Commissioners of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The confirmations of Republicans Keith Sonderling and Andrea Lucas, along with Democrat Jocelyn Samuels, bring the EEOC to its full complement of five Commissioners, and barring a resignation thus ensures a 3 – 2 Republican majority on the EEOC until at least 2022. This is the first time during the Trump Administration that the Commission will be operating with its full complement of five Commissioners.
The two Republican nominees were confirmed on September 22, 2020, Ms. Lucas on a vote of 49 to 44, and Mr. Sonderling by a vote of 51 to 42. Ms. Samuels was confirmed by a vote of 54 – 42 on September 23.
The confirmations also bring an end to the term of Republican Commissioner and former Acting Chair Victoria Lipnic, who had served on the Commission since 2010.
