The U.S. Census Bureau intends to launch a comprehensive new survey of American businesses later this year to collect detailed data on their business operations, revenue figures, and even information concerning the demographics and education achievements of business owners. The Census Bureau’s new Annual Business Survey (ABS), which has been submitted to and is awaiting final approval from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), will be mandatory for those companies selected to participate.
The new ABS would replace a series of previous, smaller mandatory business surveys. If approved by OMB, the ABS will be sent to 850,000 businesses in its first year, and an additional 300,000 businesses per year in years two through five.
The Census Bureau anticipates sending out the first ABS in June 2018, to solicit data from calendar year 2017.
