Despite a Congress as polarized as ever, there are some legislative issues that do enjoy bipartisan support, including protecting employee whistleblowers from retaliation by their employers. Indeed, there are more than 20 federal laws currently on the books that provide whistleblower retaliation protection in one way or another.

Now the lame duck Congress has given final approval to yet another such law, in this case enhancing whistleblower retaliation protection for employees who report criminal antitrust violations to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Although the U.S. Senate had approved similar legislation in previous Congresses, and again last year, the House had not taken up the bill, until last week. S. 2258, the Criminal Antitrust Anti-Retaliation Act, has now been sent to the White House, where President Trump is expected to sign it into law.
