The Department of Labor (DOL) has confirmed with an NT Lakis attorney that Ondray T. Harris has been tapped as the new Director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). Mr. Harris has been with DOL since June of this year, when he was appointed by Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta to serve as a policy advisor within DOL’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA).
The position of Director has been vacant since the resignation of former Director Patricia Shiu over one year ago. In the interim, Deputy Director Tom Dowd, a career employee, had served as Acting Director. Unlike other-high ranking DOL positions, the OFCCP Director slot does not require U.S. Senate confirmation. As a result, Mr. Harris assumed his duties immediately upon his appointment as the new Director.
Mr. Harris’ appointment puts to rest speculation reported by a number of organizations that former Coral Gables, Florida City Attorney Craig Leen would become the next OFCCP Director. Instead, DOL sources have informed us that Mr. Leen will be serving as senior advisor to Secretary Acosta.
