Included among a package of veterans bills approved recently by the House of Representatives are two that may be of interest to employers.  The first bill (H.R. 244) would create a recognition program for employers that meet certain goals relating to hiring and retaining veterans, while the second bill (H.R. 974) would grant a contracting preference to certain employers that bid on contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

While similar measures have been passed by the House previously but never advanced in the Senate, the near unanimous approval by the House this early in the new Congress signals that there is a greater opportunity this time around that the Senate will consider and approve one or both of these measures, sending them to President Trump for his likely signature.
