According to enforcement statistics released recently by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – a component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – the number of worksite investigations conducted in Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 more than quadrupled the number conducted in FY 2017, from 1,691 to 6,848. Similarly, I-9 audits increased to 5,981 in FY 2018 compared to 1,360 in FY 2017, a 340% increase.
Former Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan announced in late 2017 that ICE intended to quadruple its worksite enforcement over the levels achieved during the Obama Administration, and the latest enforcement numbers bear this out.
