During the last five years, a number of states and municipalities across the United States have mandated that employers provide employees with paid sick leave. By our count, there are now seven states (plus the District of Columbia) and 31 separate cities and counties that have implemented paid sick leave laws.

Because many employers tend to operate on a multi-state basis, the result has been a patchwork of new rules that they must track and observe. Further complicating the matter, some employers also are subject to President Obama’s Executive Order 13706 and its implementing regulations establishing up to 56 hours of paid sick leave for federal contractors, which go into effect on January 1, 2017.

NT Lakis attorneys and non-attorney professionals have created three new resources for members of the Equal Employment Advisory Council (EEAC).  These resources can be used to quickly review the various paid sick leave requirements to assess compliance:

  • An online portal containing the major features of each law;
  • An infographic checklist listing the elements that every paid leave policy should contain; and
  • A two-page guide titled Create a Leave System that Works for You.
