The Labor Department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) has produced a brief video encouraging persons with disabilities to self-identify as such when invited to do so by federal contractors under OFCCP’s revised “Section 503” disability regulations.
Those revised regulations require federal contractors to invite individuals with disabilities to voluntarily self-identify at three separate stages of the employment process including for the first time at the pre-offer (applicant) stage using government “Form CC-305” created and mandated by OFCCP.
The newly released video is intended to help persons with disabilities overcome their reluctance to reveal their disability status to employers on a sterile, government-prescribed form. The “Disability Inclusion Starts with You” video, which has been posted on OFCCP’s website, is designed to be included on contractors’ websites and intranets, offering applicants and employees assurances that contractors are indeed required to invite them to self-identify as individuals with disabilities, and that their responses will not be used against them.
