The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has approved the request by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC or Commission) to extend “Component 1” of the annual Employer Information (EEO-1) Report. However, the extension is for only one year rather than the normal three-year approval. The EEO-1 Report is a mandatory annual federal report that provides a snapshot of a company’s workforce by race, ethnicity, sex, and job category. The EEOC must receive approval periodically from the OMB to continue to require employers to file the EEO-1. The previous version of the EEO-1 expired on June 30, 2023. OMB’s explanation for approving only a one-year extension refers to ongoing efforts to revise the government’s Standards for Maintaining, Collecting, and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity, commonly called the 1997 Reporting Standards.
