President Trump has announced, by way of a characteristic tweet, that he intends to nominate long time management-side lawyer Eugene Scalia to be the next Secretary of Labor following the recent resignation of former Secretary Alexander Acosta. Once officially nominated, Mr. Scalia must then be confirmed to the post by the U.S. Senate.
Mr. Scalia, the son of the late Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, has had a long and distinguished career representing employers in a wide variety of labor and employment matters, and also served briefly as the Labor Department’s top lawyer during the George W. Bush Administration.
It is likely to be weeks or even months before Mr. Scalia’s nomination is considered by the Senate, although his eventual confirmation seems likely.
