The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that it will be discontinuing the practice of sending so-called “no-match” letters to employers when the name and/or Social Security Number (SSN) on an employee’s W-2 form does not correspond to information in SSA’s database. SSA had resumed the practice during the Trump Administration after a seven-year hiatus. The change is effective immediately.

In lieu of sending no-match letters, SSA now says it will focus on improving its suite of services offered free of charge to employers via its “Business Services Online” (BSO) platform, which allows employers to verify and correct employee information “in real time as they upload their wage reports.”
