The Department of Labor (DOL) recently posted a new webpage on the agency’s website, designed to provide user-friendly tools and information for employees who have questions about their employment status. The new webpage covers areas such as pay and misclassification, health and safety, unemployment insurance, retaliation and discrimination, federal taxes, and health care and retirement benefits.
Misclassification of employees as independent contractors has been a major focus area of the outgoing Obama Administration’s Labor Department, which claims the issue is a “huge problem” for both misclassified employees, and for employers trying to “play by the rules.”
