In a welcome development, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced on its EEO-1 Survey website that covered employers will now have until Monday, August 23, 2021, to file their 2019 and 2020 Employer Information (EEO-1) Reports. The previous deadline was July 19, 2021.

The announcement of the roughly 30-day extension perhaps comes as no surprise, given technical glitches that have occurred in the online filing system, unexpected delays in filing that many companies appear to be encountering, and a backlog of support requests that have been submitted by filers to the contractor retained by the agency to collect the EEO-1 data.

The EEOC has also repeated its request that employers submit support requests only once regarding the same issue, and promised that all issues will be addressed in time to meet the new filing deadline. Nevertheless, we continue to recommend that employers that have not yet started the filing process begin as soon as possible.
