The number of employment-related lawsuits filed in the nation’s federal courts in fiscal year 2022 dropped by almost 8 percent overall from fiscal year 2021 to 23,969, according to statistics from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO). This is the fourth year in a row that the AO has reported a decline. The drop was especially notable in filings related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Two categories—Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) lawsuits and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) lawsuits—showed slight increases compared with the previous year.
