The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) took another step in its efforts to take its activities online and make itself more accessible to the public by announcing on March 16 that it has launched a new online pilot inquiry and appointment system enabling potential charging parties to reach out to the agency via the internet.
The new portal, which allows individuals to fill out a basic questionnaire and make an appointment for an intake interview, is available to those within 100 miles of the EEOC’s Charlotte, Chicago, New Orleans, Phoenix, or Seattle offices. The agency intends to test the system in those five offices before taking it nationwide later this year.
Importantly, the instructions accompanying the new portal emphasize that completing and submitting the online questionnaire is not sufficient to file a charge of discrimination with the agency, and that individuals using the system must go on to complete the intake process.
The new online inquiry and appointment system is available in a public portal and through the agency’s website.
