According to updated statistics recently provided by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, the number of employment-related lawsuits filed in federal courts during Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 dropped by 2.6% from the year before, and was the fewest number filed since FY 2008. Even with this decline in the overall number of employment-related lawsuits filed, however, suits alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) hit all-time highs.
The number of employment-related lawsuits filed as a percentage of all civil actions stood at 11.2%, in line with the annual percentages recorded over the last decade.
