President Trump has issued a new Executive Order establishing the President’s National Council for the American Worker (Council). According to the Order, the purpose of the Council is to develop a national strategy to meet the skills gap challenges brought on by, among other causes, the rising tide of automation and artificial intelligence processes in the workplace.

The Executive Order creates the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board (Board), to be composed of a cross-section of leaders from private employers as well as from the government and educational institutions. The new Board is charged with offering “diverse perspectives on how the Federal Government can improve education, training, and re-training for American workers.”

As part of this overall effort, the Administration has also launched a new “Pledge to America’s Workers” – which asks for a signed commitment by individual companies to invest in the current and future workforce.

In conjunction with the issuance of the Executive Order, the White House also released a new report by the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) entitled, Addressing America’s Reskilling Challenge, which outlines the importance of reskilling America’s workers for the jobs of the future.

The White House website contains both a copy of President Trump’s “National Council for the American Worker” Executive Order, and a copy of the CEA report.
