President Biden, in conjunction with Pride Month, on June 15 signed a new Executive Order (E.O. 14075) that, among other things, sets up a process to advance the federal government’s collection of data on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). In a similarly coordinated effort, the House of Representatives’ Democrat majority on June 23 passed related legislation (H.R. 4176) by a partisan vote, more as a symbolic gesture than with any likelihood the bill will become law in this Congress.

Both of these actions signal an ongoing effort on the part of Biden Administration and Congressional allies to expand federal data collection to further assess progress in compliance with nondiscrimination laws and eliminating disparities impacting LGBTQI+ persons.
