Four major federal enforcement agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), have issued a joint statement declaring that they are prioritizing enforcement of cases in which artificial intelligence (AI) or similar tools may be discriminating against a protected group. The joint statement—signed by the EEOC along with the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division (CRD), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)—serves as an important reminder that federal agencies are scrutinizing the potential discriminatory impact of artificial intelligence and similar tools.
