The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has formally published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, “Removal of Reporting Requirements,” that aims to rescind employers’ obligation to file the annual Employer Information (EEO-1) Report. The EEOC announced the NPRM earlier this week after a public meeting during which the EEOC commissioners voted 2 to 1 to approve it.
The proposal also seeks to eliminate the associated requirements for employers to collect and maintain the workforce demographic data used to prepare the EEO-1.
If adopted, this proposal would be one of the most significant changes to federal equal employment opportunity reporting requirements in decades.
The EEOC is soliciting public feedback, with written comments due August 24. The Center for Workplace Compliance (CWC), our affiliated nonprofit membership association, intends to file comments. The EEOC also will hold a public hearing on the proposal August 11 at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
CWC will hold a roundtable on August 13 at 2:00 p.m. EDT to discuss the NPRM. Registration is free for members. Click here to read more from CWC.
